Chartreuse is a tertiary colour between yellow and green, and got it's name from a liqueur that was varying shades of yellow and green. On the web, chartreuse is exactly 50% yellow and 50% green, shown as this background colour. But many colours in varying hues between yellow and green are commonly called chartreuse. I have found that chartreuse can be quite a polarising topic. I often have been met with disgust when the colour is brought up, and I hear it described as puke green or highlighter green or other mean names. But puke green is a pretty different colour than highlighter green, so I wondered where these names were coming from. People must each have a different idea of what chartreuse looks like to them in their heads. This colour is so controversial because it is hard to define, and people tend to think of their least favorite version and forget any other shade or hue.
